Writing Research Across Borders V - Call for Proposals
March 11-14, 2020 – http://www.wrab2020.com/ Xi’an, China Xi’an International Studies University Proposal Deadline 1st June, 2019 See complete language guidelines below Detailed information in English, French, and Spanish at the Conference Website: http://www.wrab2020.com/ The International Society for the Advancement of Writing Research invites you to the Fifth World Conference on Writing Research The International Society for the Advancement of Writing Research (ISAWR) is composed of researchers from all over the world interested in writing across all education levels and in all life situations. For ten years, the WRAB Conference has promoted an exchange of approaches and the regular updating and the creation of networks to carry out research and international projects. Previous WRAB conferences were: Writing Research Across Borders (2008) – University of California, Santa Barbara, California, USA Writing Research Across Borders II (2011) - George Mason University, Fairfax, Northern Virginia, USA Writing Research Across Borders III (2014) - Université Paris-Ouest Nanterre La Défense, Paris, France Writing Research Across Borders IV (2017) - Pontificia Universidad Javeriana, Bogota, Colombia, February 2017 The 2020 Conference Organizers invite proposals for presentations, symposia, round tables, and posters. As in past years, this conference will focus on writing development at all stages of the lifespan, including the impact of new technologies on learning to write, early acquisition of writing, writing across grade levels (K-20), writing in the disciplines and professions, second language writing or multilingual writing, and writing in the workplace or other community and institutional settings. We also invite proposals on any other areas of writing use and practice, such as writing in progressive or large scale educational programs, or proposals that link writing research and policies. We welcome papers raising methodological issues about researching writing. We invite work from any research tradition that is grounded in the tradition’s previous research and pursues the methodical gathering of qualitative or quantitative data appropriate to its claims. Proposals should identify the format preferred (panel, roundtable, individual presentation, or poster presentation). Individual or poster proposals should be a maximum of 500 words. Proposals with multiple presentations (panel and roundtable) should contain a short overview statement and then no more than 400 words per speaker. Proposals should specify the relevant research literatures, research questions, methods, data, and findings, as well as the scope and duration of the research projects. Types of presentations • Individual 30-minute presentations followed by ten minutes of Q+A. • Symposia featuring several scholars working on related questions (duration: 2 hours). These symposia can take two shapes: team symposia and symposia bringing together several scholars from different teams or countries. This second type of symposium is strongly encouraged as it makes the conference the site of intellectual exchange and collective work. • Roundtables focused on debates and commonalities (duration: 2 hours). The author of the proposal provides the theme and the topics that will be discussed during the roundtable. • Poster presentations of work in progress. Presentations can be grounded in diverse fields: linguistics, education, psycholinguistics, psychology, didactics, sociology, rhetoric, historical studies, ethnography, anthropology, technical communication, or any other disciplinary tradition. Further details are in the attached .pdf and at the conference website: http://www.wrab2020.com/ Conditions and criteria for proposal selection The proposals should clearly and coherently indicate: ‒ the topic and the field of work. (They need not be limited to the topics above, but they should fit within the area of writing research.) ‒ the type of study and its objectives. ‒ the motivations and the precedents behind the experience or study. ‒ the theoretical foundation of the research or experience. ‒ the samples, population and corpus used in the research or experience. ‒ the procedures, techniques, and tools employed. ‒ the most important results, achievements and limitations. The scientific committee will examine the proposals anonymously. Name or home institutions or other identifying should not appear in the summaries. Proposals, identifying information, and contact details must be uploaded through the site http://www.wrab2020.com/ Calendar Deadline for submission of proposals: June 1, 2019 Proposal acceptance notices sent: August 2019 Proposers must accept the invitation and register for the conference in order to appear on the program by October 31, 2019.
